Functional Foods
​What exactly are functional foods? Functional foods offer health benefits beyond basic nutrition. They are loaded with vitamins, minerals, probiotics, or other beneficial compounds that can help improve overall health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Functional foods can also be processed food that have been fortified with additional ingredients to be "healthy". Those are NOT the type of functional foods that I want to focus on here. I want to spotlight the superfoods that are nutrient dense, whole foods, that can do so much more for you than just relieve hunger. The superfoods that can help decrease inflammation and stress in the body, and reduce risk of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other chronic conditions.
