Ok, ok...I know what you are thinking. Calling them dried plums isn't going to take away from the fact that they are just prunes and prunes are only good for helping you poop, right? Wrong! Dried plums are chock full of fiber, which helps slow down a blood sugar spike after you eat carbs. They can also boost your body's production of adiponectin, a hormone that helps regulate your blood sugar levels. The reason I started eating them regularly is because of a recent study led by Penn State researches that shows eating prunes daily may protect bone structure and strength in postmenopausal women, slowing the progression of age-related bone loss and reducing the risk of fracture. If eating a tasty, sweet, chewy treat can reduce my risk of osteoperosis...count me in! Plus, I just really like them. If I need a quick, nutrient dense snack before a hike that won't weigh me down, I will grab a serving of dried plums and a handful of sprouted walnuts and I am good to go! I also like to have them after dinner if I am craving something sweet, or I will cut them up with my kitchen scissors and sprinkle them over a salad or yogurt bowl. I won't ignore the fact that they can also help alleviate constipation...huge bonus if you ask me. I always need help in that department (TMI...sorry). Just don't eat a whole bag. It is true what they say, "Too much of a good thing"...
So let's call them what they are...dried plums! Much more appetizing than prunes 😜.
